On Friday, participants met in a final plenary session chaired by John Holmes, UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Chair of the second session of the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction.

Following a keynote address and feedback session, participants were presented with a Chair’s Summary, a consensus-driven statement that will help guide the global disaster risk reduction community as they prepare for the mid-term review of the Hyogo Framework of Action in 2010, and the lead-up to the UN climate change negotiations in December 2009 in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Margareta Wahlström, UN Assistant Secretary-General and Special Representative for Disaster Risk Reduction said that the UNISDR will make available an online summary of work on the mid-term review, which will be open for comments from all stakeholders to this multistakeholder strategy.
