GEF-7 Replenishment: 1st Meeting

At its 51st meeting in October 2016, the Global Environment Facility (GEF) Council requested the Trustee, in cooperation with the Secretariat, to initiate discussions on the seventh replenishment of resources of the GEF Trust Fund (GEF-7). The replenishment meetings provide an opportunity for Contributing Participants to review GEF performance and evaluate progress, assess future funding needs, and agree on a financing framework. The first official meeting of the 7th Replenishment of the GEF will be held in Paris.

European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) Stakeholder Day Conference

At the two-day Stakeholder Day Conference, the main focus will be preparing for the final REACH registration deadline on 31 May 2018. One year to the deadline, the conference offers registrants, in particular SMEs, the most up-to-date advice, guidance and case studies to help them register successfully. At the Conference, ECHA will offer training on IT tools, and hold a plenary session on: Road to REACH 2018, Case studies for successful registration; and Managing risks in the supply chain. The event will be web-streamed live and participants will be able to send questions remotely.

Basel Convention COP13, Rotterdam Convention COP8 and Stockholm Convention COP8

The Thirteenth Meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP13) to the Basel Convention, the Eighth Meeting of the COP (COP8) to the Rotterdam Convention and the Eighth Meeting of the COP (COP8) to the Stockholm Convention will convene back-to-back to discuss issues for each Convention, and joint issues shared among the Conventions. 52nd Meeting of the GEF Council

The 52nd meeting of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) Council will take place from 23-25 May 2017, in Washington, DC, US. The meeting will be preceded by the GEF CSO Consultation, on 22 May. The GEF Council is the main governing body of the GEF. It is comprised of 32 Members appointed by constituencies of GEF member countries (14 from developed countries, 16 from developing countries and 2 from economies in transition). The Council, which meets twice annually, develops, adopts and evaluates the operational policies and programs for GEF-financed activities. It also reviews and approves the work program (projects submitted for approval). On the final day, the Council will convene as the Council of the Least Developed Countries Fund (LDCF) and Special Climate Change Fund (SCCF), also at the same location.

Helsinki Chemicals Forum 2017

The Helsinki Chemicals Forum 2017 is an independent forum engaging international authorities, industry leaders, NGOs, academics, the media and other interested parties in an open dialogue on key issues of global relevance regarding chemicals management and the control of chemicals safety. The ninth forum will also mark the tenth birthday of the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA).

Montreal Protocol OEWG 39

The 39th Session of the Open-ended Working Group of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer will take place in Bangkok, Thailand, from 11-14 July 2017. The meeting will be preceded by a workshop on safety standards relevant to the use of low-global warming potential (GWP) alternatives to hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), to be held on 10 July, and the 58th meeting of the Implementation Committee under the Non-Compliance Procedure for the Montreal Protocol (ImpCom58), to be held on 9 July.

First Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Minamata Convention on Mercury

The First Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Minamata Convention on Mercury (COP1) of the Minamata Convention will be held within one year of entry into force of the Convention, and is thus expected to take place in September 2017. Dates will be confirmed by the interim secretariat.

2017 Annual General Meeting of the IGF

The 2017 Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Intergovernmental Forum on Mining, Minerals, Metals and Sustainable Development (IGF) will convene from from 17-19 October, with workshops taking place on 16 and 20 October. The AGM will convene at the Palais des Nations, in Geneva, Switzerland.

Sixth International Marine Debris Conference (6IMDC)

The US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the UN Environment Programme (UN Environment, or UNEP) will organize the Sixth International Marine Debris Conference (6IMDC). The conference will promote international coordination efforts within the marine debris community, and it will build on the partnerships and successes of the Honolulu Strategy, which was developed at the last conference in 2011.
