Simultaneous Extraordinary Meeting of the Conferences of the Parties to the Basel, Rotterdam, and Stockholm Conventions (ExCOPs), and Eleventh Special Session of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) Governing Council/ Global Ministerial Environment Forum (GCSS-11/GMEF)

The Simultaneous Extraordinary Meeting of the Conferences of the Parties (ExCOPs) to the Basel, Rotterdam, and Stockholm Conventions convened Monday 22 February 2010 at the Bali International Conference Centre in Nusa Dua, Bali, Indonesia. In the morning, delegates convened in plenary for the opening of the simultaneous extraordinary meetings of the ExCOPs, followed by an open-ended joint working group (OEWG) which met in the morning and afternoon. Three contact groups on joint activities, review of coordination and cooperation and joint managerial functions convened in the afternoon and evening. The ExCOPs will continue on 23 February, with a resumed decision-making session held on the morning of 24 February.
The Eleventh Special Session of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) Governing Council/ Global Ministerial Environment Forum (GCSS-11/GMEF) will meet from 24-26 February 2010 at the Bali International Conference Centre. The ministerial consultations during the eleventh special session will focus on the emerging policy issues under the overall theme of environment in the multilateral system. Specific themes to be considered are: international environmental governance and sustainable development; green economy; and biodiversity and ecosystems.
The eleventh Global Major Groups and Stakeholders Forum (GMGSF-11) (formerly known as the Global Civil Society Forum), which began Sunday 21 February, concluded today. Participants from civil society discussed relevant issues emerging from the ExCOP, including International Environmental Governance and sustainable development, the "Green Economy," and biodiversity and ecosystems. |
