Chair and presenter Dominique Lallement, ESMAP, discussed some of the advances that have been made in integrating gender and energy concerns.  

Rekha Dayal, Mallika Consultants, India, spoke of gender in energy from her perspective as a project implementor.  She illustrated how easy it is for projects to overlook gender bias, and how striking the effects can be of such failure.

Lisa Büttner, Winrock International, highlighted presentations that presented new gender perspectives, and encouraged participants to consider these and to bring their own experiences to bear in smaller group discussions.

Group discussions centered around policy, the "information gap" and operationalization.  Participants brainstormed concrete steps to take, including suggestions for project and program implementors and for future energy forums.

Param Iyer of the World Bank outlines a water and sanitation program in India. He emphasized a community driven, demand responsive approach, with partnerships between the private sector, government, NGOs and local community.

François Münger of the World Bank presented a case study on PV pumping for community water in Mauritania. As a desert nation, solar technology is an appropriate solution for Mauritania’s small village populations

Jeni Klugman, of Poverty Reduction and Economic Management, spoke about the Poverty Reduction Strategy Papers Initiative, and how it addresses some of the concerns of Heavily Indebted Poor Countries.
