HIGHLIGHTS: Tuesday, 1 June


Participants to the International Conference for Renewable Energies heard opening statements this morning, followed by a Multi-Stakeholder Dialogue (MSD). In the afternoon, the MSD discussed financing and capacity building. Numerous side events were also held throughout the day, including the Global Village Energy Partnership (GVEP) event, and the Science Forum on research, development and education. The Sustainable Energy Finance event also took place.

Global Village Energy Partnership Side Event

Participants to this side event learned about the Global Village Energy Partnership (GVEP) and its work to increase energy access in various countries around the world.

Jürgen Schmid, Solar Energy Research Association (FVS), chaired a number of sessions at the Science Forum side event and announced the launching of an internet-based information exchange and education system.

Participants of this event heard a keynote presentation on what makes a successful business model, and listened to presentations on 12 energy projects and 3 sustainable energy funds.

AROUND THE CONFERENCE CENTRE


Juliet Jones (ENB) was stopped by a large WWF panda handing out information on her way to the conference center this morning.


Youths greeted conference participants as they arrived at the conference center and gave them Greenpeace pamphlets eliciting their support for renewable energies and identifying themselves as the "SolarGeneration: young people fighting with Greenpeace for renewable energy".

German Minister Trittin receiving the symbols of Climate Alliance's CLIMATE RELAY from Bonn's Lady Mayor Baerbel Dieckmann and Gotelind Alber, Director of the Climate Alliance, after the relay has covered 4000 kilometres, some 200 stages, and more than 100 local renewable energy projects, highlighting the strong support for renewables from local and regional governments, NGOs and citizens.
