The Post-2015 Development Agenda Consultation on Water, taking place from 27-28 February 2013 in Geneva, Switzerland, will bring together government representatives, international organizations, civil society and the private sector to contribute to the discuss water in the context of the post-2015 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly the two sub-themes on wastewater management and water quality (WWQWM); and water resources management (WRM).
The Post-2015 Development Agenda Consultation on Water, sponsored by Switzerland, is taking place as a component of the post-2015 development agenda consultation process, which was initiated by the United Nations following the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD or Rio+20). The post-2015 development agenda consultation is centered around discussions on 11 thematic areas, one of which is water. Led by UN-Water, the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA), the Thematic Consultation on Water was launched in November 2012 on the website: http://www.worldwewant2015.org/water
Consultations on water sub-themes commenced on 14 January 2013, including on: water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH); WWQWM; and WRM. The Post-2015 Development Agenda Consultation on Water will provide participants with the opportunity to discuss and synthesize the sub-themes on WRM and WWQWM, with discussions facilitated by the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and UN Human Settlements Programme (Habitat).
The meeting will produce short documents summarizing the discussions and may identify possible targets and indicators for SDGs to serve as the foundation for further negotiations during the Open Working Group (OWG) and the High-level Panel of Eminent Persons on the Post-2015 Development Agenda.
