Delegates gather in the Trusteeship Council Chamber at UN Headquarters in New York,
as the third session of intergovernmental negotiations on the post-2015 development agenda begins.

2015 Time for Global Action Agenda for People and for Planet The third session of intergovernmental negotiations on the post-2015 development agenda opened Monday at UN Headquarters in New York, US. Co-Facilitators Macharia Kamau (Kenya) and David Donoghue (Ireland) briefed delegates on the work ahead of them, noting that the first two days of discussions would be devoted to discussion of indicators.

John Pullinger, Chair of the UN Statistical Commission (UNSC), introduced a report on the targets in the proposed SDG framework, and outlined the outcomes of the 46th session of the UNSC, which took place earlier in March 2015. Several heads of national statistics bodies provided further comments, and many delegates affirmed the outcomes of the UNSC session, which included creation of an Inter-Agency and Expert Group on SDG Indicators, and a roadmap for work on an “indicators framework” in support of the SDGs and targets.

Delegates discussed the process of developing the indicators framework, its features, and how the global, regional and national-level indicators would be connected. Many highlighted the need for an open and transparent process with balanced representation, and the importance of data disaggregation in order to “leave no one behind.”
