Highlights for Wednesday, 30 June 2005


Delegates to the Twenty-fifth meeting of the Open-ended Working Group to the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer (OEWG-25) met in Plenary on Thursday at 10 am, after a contact group meeting on replenishment of the Multilateral Fund. Delegates heard a report on the outcomes of the contact group meetings before completing their substantive agenda at 11 am. Following that, many regional group meetings and informal consultations took place, focusing on methyl bromide critical use nominations in preparation for the ExMOP to be held tomorrow, Friday 1 July. Plenary resumed at 5.00 pm, when Parties adopted the meeting report with minor amendments. OEWG-25 closed at 7:02 pm.

ISSUES RELATED TO THE Multilateral Fund for the Implementation of the Montreal Protocol:

 

 

TEAP STUDY ON THE 2006-08 REPLENISHMENT OF THE MULTILATERAL FUND FOR IMPLEMENTATION OF THE MONTREAL PROTOCOL: On Thursday morning, co-chair of the contact group on replenishment of the Multilateral Fund, co-chair Oladapo Afolabi (Nigeria) (above right), introduced the report of contact group, noting that the group was comprised of 11 countries from Article 5 and non-Article 5 countries, and personnel from TEAP, the Multilateral Fund Secretariat and the Ozone Secretariat. Contact group co-chair Jos Buys (Belgium) (above left), highlighted key issues needing further consideration by the TEAP Replenishment Task Force, which include: non-investment costs; information and funding requirements estimated for CTC, HCFC, chillers and destruction technologies; the Executive Summary of the TEAP Progress Report Volume 2; and other matters.

 

CLOSING PLENARY:


In the closing Plenary on Thursday, Chile, for GRULAC, formally proposed Martha Pisano, Colombia, as candidate for MBTOC Co-Chair. Delegates agreed that this will be considered at MOP-17 and included in this meeting report. Delegates then considered the draft report of the meeting. Delegates then adopted the meeting report, with minor amendments. Co-Chair Land adjourned the meeting at 7:02pm.
