EAST ASIAN NATIONS ADOPT DECLARATION ON
ENERGY SECURITY |
|
|
Leaders of the member States of the Association of
Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and ASEAN’s dialogue
partner States adopted the Cebu Declaration on East
Asian Energy Security as one of the outcomes of the
12th ASEAN Summit in Cebu, the Philippines, from
10-15 January 2007. The meeting consisted of a
series of summits, with the energy security
declaration being considered during the 2nd East
Asian Summit on 15 January. The Declaration declares
five goals, including improved efficiency and
environmental performance of fossil fuel use and
mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions, and
identifies 12 measures to achieve these goals.

ASIAN NATIONS AT DELHI SUMMIT |

The Delhi Sustainable Development Summit 2007 has
concluded its examination of the natural resource
dimension of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
During the 22-24 January 2007 meeting in New Delhi,
India, keynote speaker Jeffrey Sachs, highlighted
water as the primary challenge for Asian countries,
and proposed setting up an IPCC-like body for water.
