BASEL CONVENTION ADOPTS E-WASTE DECLARATION |
|
|
Nairobi, 2 December—The
eighth meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP8)
to the Basel Convention on the Control of Transboundary
Movements of Hazardous Wastes and their Disposal adopted
a declaration on e-waste and more than 30 decisions
during its 27 November to 1 December 2006 session in
Nairobi, Kenya. An additional decision included
agreement to establish an ad hoc joint working
group to consider synergies among the chemicals
conventions.

AFRICAN WATER UTILITY EXPERTS DISCUSS WATER
AND SANITATION AGENDA |

9 December—A
Capacity Building Workshop on Partnerships for
Improving the Performance of Water Utilities in the
Africa Region has discussed implementation of the
global water and sanitation agenda in the African
context. The workshop, which convened from 6-8
December 2006 in Nairobi, Kenya, focused on
strengthening the capacities of water utilities in
meeting the dual challenge of service expansion and
efficient delivery of services.

ENERGY FORUM FOCUSES ON ENERGIZING AFRICA |

Vienna,
2 December—Africa
was the focus of the sixth meeting of the Global
Forum on Sustainable Energy held recently in Vienna.
The event, which took place from 29 November to 1
December 2006, convened under the theme “Africa is
energizing itself” and focused on such topics as sub-regional
issues, biofuels, hydropower, the Clean Development
Mechanism, and financing.
