AIDS CONFERENCE URGES
UNIVERSAL ACCESS TO PREVENTION, TREATMENT
13-18 August 2006 | Toronto, Canada
A large
conference on HIV/AIDS has concluded with calls for universal
access to effective prevention strategies, as well as HIV care
and treatment. The XVI International AIDS Conference involved
the presentation of more than 4,500 abstracts and was attended
by a large number of experts, activists, policy makers, health
providers and caregivers.

OZONE LAYER RECOVERY OF
ANTARCTICA DELAYED, METHYL BROMIDE UNDERESTIMATED, SAYS UN
REPORT
18 August 2006 | Nairobi, Kenya
The ozone layer will not be fully restored over Antarctica until
2060-2075, an extension of 10-25 years longer than previous
estimates, according to a new report. In addition, the effects
of emissions of methyl bromide from humans appear to be greater
than previously thought, according to the new study by the
Scientific Assessment Panel to the Montreal Protocol.
