FORUM CONCLUDES

The 4th World Water
Forum has ended in
Mexico City with
ministerial
roundtables and a
closing plenary. The
meeting, which
focused on the
theme, “Local
actions for a global
challenge,” involved
over 200 thematic
sessions and drew
an estimated 11,000
participants. The
Fifth World Water
Forum will take
place in Istanbul in
2009.

BIOSAFETY MEETING ADOPTS
DECISION ON DOCUMENTATION OF GM COMMODITIES

The third
Meeting of the Parties to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety
(COP/MOP-3) has ended with agreement on detailed documentation
requirements for living modified organisms for food, feed, or
processing (LMO-FFPs), as set out in Article 18.2(a) of the
Protocol. COP/MOP-3 also considered reports on ongoing
activities under the Protocol, as well as risk assessment and
risk management, compliance, monitoring and reporting, and
assessment and review of implementation.
