TROPICAL TIMBER COUNCIL
ADOPTS WORK PROGRAMME, DECISIONS
7-12 November 2005 | Yokohama,
Japan
The thirty-ninth session of the International Tropical Timber
Council (ITTC-39) has ended in Yokohama, Japan, with delegates
adopting a revised work programme for 2006-2007, along with
various other decisions and Committee reports. While the meeting
appeared on the surface to be “business as usual,” the session
was apparently overshadowed by uncertainty associated with the
renegotiation of ITTA, 1994. The next round of talks – ITTA-4 –
is slated for January 2006.

MAKES LIMITED PROGRESS ON IMPLEMENTATION
17-28 October 2005 | Nairobi, Kenya
The seventh
session of the Conference of the Parties (COP-7) to the UN
Convention to Combat Desertification has completed its
deliberations without reaching decisions on some issues. Parties
reported that the COP’s outcomes did not meet their
expectations, and therefore the meeting was not deemed
successful in moving forward the Convention’s implementation.
