OZONE MEETING TACKLES METHYL
BROMIDE, AGREES DRAFT DECISIONS
27 June to 1 July 2005 |
Montreal, Canada
The twenty-fifth meeting of
the Montreal Protocol’s Open-ended Working Group has agreed 11
draft decisions to be forwarded to the seventeenth Meeting of
Parties later this year. Immediately following this, the second
Extraordinary Meeting of Parties agreed on critical-use
nominations for methyl bromide in 2006.

CONSIDERS DEVELOPMENT GOALS

Internationally-agreed development goals were the focus of the
UN Economic and Social Council’s High-level Segment. While the
meeting ended without a ministerial declaration, it is
nevertheless expected to contribute to the General Assembly
High-level Plenary – or “2005 World Summit” – in September 2005.

FURTHER NEGOTIATIONS FOR AN
ITTA SUCCESSOR AGREEMENT SCHEDULED

Conference for the Negotiation of a Successor Agreement to the
International Tropical Timber Agreement, 1994 (ITTA, 1994) has
ended by deferring discussion of several contentious issues
until January 2006.
