Future Development Must Be Centred Around Risk
|
|
|
Risk reduction's inclusion in national development plans, especially in hazard zones, should be an informed choice. The recent endorsement by the Maldives' Parliament for the world's first Strategic National Action Plan, which integrates risk reduction and climate change adaptation, is a landmark achievement. Peru, Indonesia and Viet Nam are also making rapid progress to mitigate against the risks to their development. Others will surely follow once the decision is made to reduce the impact of climate and disaster risk. More. |

Sustainable design has emerged in response to a global problem – the need to maintain environmental integrity. Global problems require global platforms that support and facilitate the dissemination of sustainable products. The global filing and registration systems that WIPO offers, including the Patent Cooperation Treaty, the Madrid System for the International Registration of Marks and the Hague System, promise to become such platforms. 16 July 2011: The UN Food and Agriculture Organization held a Special Information Seminar on "Climate Change and Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture: State of Knowledge, Risks and Opportunities," addressing the impacts of climate change on the conservation of genetic resources in different agricultural sectors as well as opportunities for adaptation and challenges and possible responses in integrating the issue with the international climate change agenda.
