CITES Plants Committee Convenes
|
21 April 2011: The 19th meeting of the Plants Committee of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) convened from 18-21 April 2011, in Geneva, Switzerland. Delegates discussed, inter alia: CITES participation in the Biodiversity Indicators Partnership; CITES collaboration with the UN Environment Programme and biodiversity-related conventions on the definition of the content and modalities of the relationships between the Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) and other Conventions' scientific bodies; CITES' role in the Convention on Biological Diversity's Global Strategy for Plant Conservation; and climate change impacts on CITES' science-based decision-making processes. UN-HABITAT Governing Council Focuses on Sustainable Urban Development

15 April 2011: The 23rd session of the Governing Council (GC-23) of the UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT), which convened from 11-15 April 2011, in Nairobi, Kenya, concluded with the adoption of 18 resolutions on issues relating to, inter alia: gender equality and empowerment of women in sustainable urban development; the World Urban Forum; expanding equitable access to land, housing, basic services and infrastructure; and natural disaster risk reduction, preparedness, prevention and mitigation.
