CBD COP 10 Adopts Nagoya Protocol on ABS, Strategic Plan and
Activities and Indicators for Resource Mobilization |

Nagoya,
30 October—The
10th meeting of the Conference of the Parties
(COP 10) to the Convention on Biological
Diversity (CBD) concluded on 29 October in
Nagoya, Japan, with the adoption of: the Nagoya
Protocol on Access to Genetic Resources and the
Fair and Equitable Sharing of Benefits Arising
from their Utilization, which, after seven years
of negotiations, sets out rules and procedures
for implementing the Convention’s third
objective; the CBD Strategic Plan for the period
2011-2020, including a mission, and strategic
goals and targets aiming to inspire broad-based
action by parties and stakeholders; and a
decision on activities and indicators for the
implementation of the Strategy for Resource
Mobilization adopted at COP 9.

Ozone Meeting Concludes Without Progress on Low-Global
Warming Potential Alternatives |

Bangkok,
13 November—Delegates at the 22nd
Meeting of the Parties (MOP 22) to the
Montreal Protocol on Substances that
Deplete the Ozone Layer adopted 16
substantive decisions including on: the
terms of reference (ToR) for the
Technical and Economic Assessment Panel
study on the replenishment of the
Multilateral Fund; the ToR for the
evaluation of the financial mechanism;
assessment of technologies for
ozone-depleting substances (ODS)
destruction; budget; and data and
compliance issues. The meeting did not
make progress on low-global warming
potential alternatives, or ODS
destruction.
