CLIMATE CHANGE CONFERENCE “TAKES NOTE” OF COPENHAGEN ACCORD |

Copenhagen,
20 December—Parties
to the United Nations Climate Change Conference,
which convened in Copenhagen, Denmark, from 7-19
December 2009, adopted a decision whereby the
Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework
Convention on Climate Change would “take note”
of the “Copenhagen Accord,” which was developed
through informal consultations during the
high-level segment and was attached to the
decision as an unofficial document. Parties also
agreed to establish a procedure whereby
countries supporting the Copenhagen Accord could
accede to it.

Copenhagen, Denmark, from 11-14 December
2009, with discussions focusing on:
land, water and forests; justice, ethics
and humanitarian issues; planning
adaptation; and mitigation, finance and
the private sector.

summary statement developed during the third
Forest Day event, which convened on 13 December
2009, in parallel with the UN Copenhagen Climate
Change Conference, indicates that participants
supported including “REDD+ (including
conservation, sustainable forest management and
stock enhancement)” in the climate change
agreement.

13 December—The
Agriculture and Rural Development Day event,
which took place in parallel with the United
Nations Copenhagen Climate Change Conference,
sought to build consensus on ways to fully
incorporate agriculture into the post-Copenhagen
climate agenda and to discuss strategies and
actions needed to address climate change
adaptation and mitigation in the agriculture
sector.
