provides conference reporting services, we
do not publish the Earth Negotiations
Bulletin. Instead, we are hired by the
conference organizers to write and

ADAPTATION PLANNING WORKSHOP CONVENES IN HAVANA |
|
|
A
UNFCCC technical workshop on adaptation planning
and practices took place from 10-12 March 2009,
in Havana, Cuba. This workshop was convened by
the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC)
in collaboration with the UN International
Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UN/ISDR), and
brought together experts to share integration
practices and lessons-learned, identify gaps and
needs, and address barriers in order to
facilitate successful integration. The workshop
was convened under the Nairobi Work Programme
and the outcomes will be presented to the UNFCCC
Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological
Advice (SBSTA) for further consideration. The
meeting aimed to identify successful examples of
using tools and integrating climate risk
assessment and management and disaster risk
reduction into national policies and programmes.
The workshop generated a number of
recommendations regarding climate-related
hazards, and sectoral and national level planning.
The report of the workshop will be presented to
the thirtieth session of SBSTA, which will take
place from 1-12 June 2009, in Bonn, Germany, for
its consideration.
