Mexico stressed that voluntary certification and standardization of
certification schemes should not pose obstacles to international trade.

should be favored or endorsed.

FOREST
HEALTH AND PRODUCTIVITY (FHP):
|

Conceição Ferreira (Portugal) (far right) chaired the working
group discussion on a draft resolution on forest health and productivity
(FHP).

|
|

After some debate, delegates agreed to encourage countries to
develop forest fire management strategies.
|
|
|
|
|

On integrated approaches to FHP, the EU (left) suggested, and
delegates agreed, to add a reference to SFM, without specifying the
nature of forest-related strategies and action plans.

|

On data and information on forest health, the US (left) and NEW
ZEALAND supported, and the G-77/CHINA opposed, reference to C&I.

The G-77/CHINA suggested compromise text welcoming the request of the
CBD to work collaboratively on issues of common interest and in this
regard request the UNFF Secretariat to reflect on the UNFF experiences at

FORMAT (RF) |

draft resolutions on reporting format and maintaining forest cover to
meet present and future needs.

NEW ZEALAND, supported by AUSTRALIA and the EU, proposed a request
to the Secretariat to consult relevant CPF members when developing a

The EU and the US, opposed by NEW ZEALAND and the G-77/CHINA,
suggested including text urging the Collaborative Partnership on Forests
(CPF) to continue its work. |
