Chair McAlpine thanked the Secretariat for all its hard work and Switzerland for its hospitality before gavelling the meeting to a close at 7:34 pm. Overall, ITTC-36 can be characterized as a successful meeting. ITTC-36 proceeded quite smoothly given that there had been a previous ITTC decision limiting the decisions taken at ITTC-36 to only those of a routine nature. But far from being insignificant, many delegates at ITTC-36 identified that the Civil Society Advisory Group/Trade Advisory Group joint workshop on illegal logging and illegal trade represented a historic opportunity for these two groups to work collaboratively on an issue of mutual concern. No doubt, however, the more contentious issues that ITTO faces, namely its financial position, will most certainly arise during the renegotiation of the successor agreement to the ITTA, 1994 to be held in Geneva, Switzerland from 26-30 July 2004.
