Fifth Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM5)
“Act Together, Think Creative”

12–13 May 2014 | Seoul, Republic of Korea

The Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM) is a high-level global forum created to improve energy efficiency worldwide, enhance clean energy supply and expand clean energy access. The Fifth CEM (CEM5) is being hosted by the Republic of Korea on the theme “Act Together, Think Creative.” It will bring together energy ministers, as well as representatives of the private sector and international organizations to discuss accelerating the transition towards a global clean energy economy. CEM5 will also assess progress since CEM1 in 2010.

CEM5 will include public-private roundtable discussions on: electric vehicle integration in power systems; energy-efficient cooling and demand response; challenges and opportunities in energy storage systems; access to low-cost capital for scaling up renewables; renewable energy for sustainable growth and employment; and the energy-water nexus. The second day will feature a Ministerial segment focusing on clean energy, integration, energy efficiency and human capacity.

Several awareness raising events will also take place on the sidelines of the meeting, including an award ceremony recognizing successes in key areas of energy efficiency and renewables, a ‘Model CEM’ based on the Model UN student conferences, and an off-grid ‘Plugfest’ display and testing of energy-efficient appliances.

CEM5 is expected to announce further commitments to advance the CEM’s goals of improving energy efficiency worldwide, enhancing the global supply of clean energy, and expanding clean energy access.
