EMPLOYMENT-ENVIRONMENT- CONSUMPTION

Local action is the strength of the trade unions. Trade unions have the organization, the experience and the commitment needed both to point out problems and to find practical solutions to them. The Council of Nordic Trade Unions will use its extensive network locally, nationally and internationally to play an active part as a driving force in environmental work. The trade union movement will no longer focus only on material consumption, but on safeguarding the quality of life of its members in a broader perspective.

The tripartite cooperation between labor, business and governments in the Nordic countries has shown that conversions and the implementation of regulations are most successful when all three parties participate and reach agreement. Nordic Trade Unions will also encourage this tripartite cooperation in the field of the external environment. Investments must, with the help of economic control measures, be channeled into job creation in sustainable production.
