On Thursday, 8 October, the 42nd Session of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC-42) concluded in Dubrovnik, Croatia. Working Group Vice-Chairs were elected in the morning and Task Force Bureau Vice-Chairs were elected in the afternoon.

For Working Group I, Jan Fuglestvedt (Norway), Noureddine Yassaa (Algeria), Fatima Driouech (Morocco), Muhammad Tariq (Pakistan), Carolina Vera (Argentina), Gregory Flato (Canada) and Edvin Aldrian (Indonesia) were elected Vice-Chairs.

For Working Group II, Joy Jacqueline Pereira (Malaysia), Mark Howden (Australia), Sergey Semenov (Russian Federation), Andreas Fischlin (Switzerland), Pius Yanda (Tanzania), Taha Zatari (Saudi Arabia), Carlos Méndez (Venezuela) and Roberto Sanchez-Rodriguez (Mexico) were elected Vice-Chairs.

For Working Group III, Diana Ürge-Vorsatz (Hungary), Carlo Carraro (Italy), Nagmeldin Mahoud (Sudan), Diriba Korecha Dadi (Ethiopia), Amjad Abdulla (Maldives), Ramon Pichs-Madruga (Cuba) and Andy Reisinger (New Zealand) were elected Vice-Chairs.

In the afternoon, the Panel elected Vice-Chairs of the Task Force Bureau (TFB). TFB Vice-Chairs elected are: Darío Gomez (Argentina); Yasna Rojas (Chile); Dominique Blain (Canada); Thomas Wirth (US); Rob Sturgiss (Australia); Fahmuddin Agus (Indonesia); Batouli Said Abdallah (Comoros); Sabin Guendehou (Benin); Irina Yesserkepova (Kazakhstan); Bundit Limmeechokchai (Thailand); Riittaa Pipatti (Finland); and Fatma Betül Baygüven (Turkey).

Following the closing of the elections, the IPCC took up the agenda item on the IPCC Programme and Budget, and under Other Matters they discussed the issue of Special Reports.

IPCC-42 was gaveled to a close at 6:42pm.

On Wednesday, 7 October, the 42nd Session of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC-42) continued in Dubrovnik, Croatia. In the morning, the Panel elected Youba Sokona (Mali), Thelma Krug (Brazil) and Ko Barrett (US) as IPCC Vice-Chairs by paper ballot. In the afternoon, the Panel agreed to use the electronic voting system for further voting and commenced with voting for the Working Group and Task Force Bureau Co-Chairs.

Valérie Masson-Delmotte (France) and Panmao Zhai (China) were elected Co-Chairs of Working Group I. Hans-Otto Pörtner (Germany) and Debra Roberts (South Africa) were elected Co-Chairs of Working Group II. Jim Skea (United Kingdom) and P.R. Shukla (India) were elected Co-Chairs of Working Group III. Eduardo Calvo Buendía (Peru) and Kiyoto Tanabe (Japan) were elected Co-Chairs of the Task Force Bureau.

On Tuesday, 6 October, the 42nd Session of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC-42) continued in Dubrovnik, Croatia. In the morning an informal session organized by the candidates for IPCC Chair convened to provide a forum for them to discuss their respective platforms. Regional consultations and sessions of both the Nominations and Credentials Committees took place.

In the afternoon, delegates tested the electronic voting system and decided to revert to a paper balloting system. In the evening, voting for the IPCC Chair commenced. The IPCC elected Hoesung Lee, Republic of Korea, as Chair. The IPCC then took up agenda items on implementation of the IPCC Error Protocol, and matters related to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and other bodies.

On Monday, 5 October, the 42nd Session of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC-42) commenced in Dubrovnik, Croatia. Following a brief opening session, the panel adopted its agenda and began consideration of agenda items. In the morning the Panel considered matters related to conflicts of interest (COI), nominations, electronic voting, the IPCC programme and budget, admission of observer organizations and adoption of the draft report of IPCC-41.

In the afternoon, the IPCC addressed agenda sub-items on: communication and outreach activities; the IPCC scholarship programme; the Expert Meeting on Climate Change, Food and Agriculture; matters related to the Task Group on Scenarios for Impacts and Climate Analysis (TGICA); matters related to the Task Force on National Greenhouse Inventories (TFI); the Workshop on Regional Climate Projections and Their Use in Impacts and Risk Analysis Studies; and an update on the decision pathway for consideration of requests from researchers for access to non-public material or meetings.
