Development and Climate Days at UNFCCC COP 14

6-7 December 2008 | Poznań, Poland

December 6 | December 7

The "Development and Climate Days at COP14" (D&C Days) event began 6 December 2008, at the Sheraton Hotel in Poznań, Poland. The event was organized by the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED), the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD), the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI), and the RING Alliance of Policy Research Organizations. The event was held in parallel with the fourteenth Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and the fourth Meeting of the Parties to its Kyoto Protocol taking place in Poznań from 1-12 December 2008.

On Saturday, four panel discussions were held, three of which focused on vulnerable groups, followed by a high-level segment on human rights. The first panel discussed various aspects of the relationship between gender and climate change, and specifically examined the role of women in climate change adaptation. The second panel was dedicated to exploring means to engage children in climate change activities and debates. The third panel focused on the similarities between the Arctic and Small Island Developing States (SIDS) with respect to how climate change impacts communities living within these regions. A high-level session on human rights and justice was convened for the final panel event, which assessed the means to incorporate human rights issues into climate change politics.
