On Wednesday, 28 March, PC20 working groups on Madagascar, timber species, medicinal plants and agarwood and a drafting group on bigleaf mahogany and neotropical timber, met throughout the morning. The working group on the periodic review also met briefly to finalize its recommendations. The working group on Cedrela and Dalbergia spp. amendment proposals, attended by PC members only, met in the late afternoon.
In the afternoon, PC20 reconvened in plenary and heard reports from all working and drafting group Chairs.
The drafting group on bigleaf mahogany and other neotropical timber proposed recommendations for the PC to consider presenting to CoP16, based on the intersessional working group recommendations (PC20 Doc. 19.1). The working group on timber species, medicinal plants and agarwood discussed, inter alia: whether to amend the definition for ‘under controlled condition’ to specifically include plantations as non-natural environments, or whether to propose a separate resolution for agarwood plantations.
The working group on Madagascar discussed the preparation of a work plan to facilitate the submission of amendment proposals at CoP16 and species identification of both succulent and timber species.
