Framing Biodiversity and Health in the context of the Post-2015 Development Agenda

Multidisciplinary discussion panel on biodiversity and health

Pablo Eyzaguirre, Platform for Agrobiodiversity Research (PAR)
Catherine Machalaba, EcoHealth Alliance
Cristina Romanelli, CBD Secretariat
This side event was organized by the CBD Secretariat jointly with the World Health Organization (WHO), Bioversity International, DIVERSITAS, Ecohealth Alliance, Wildlife Conservation Society, Health & Ecosystems, Analysis of linkages (HEAL), United Nations University–Institute for Advanced Studies (UNU-IAS) and TRAFFIC International. It focused on thematic issue areas included in the advanced draft of the soon-to-be launched State of Knowledge Review on Biodiversity and Human Health, which addresses water and air quality; agricultural biodiversity, food security and nutrition; infectious diseases; microbial communities and non-communicable diseases; physical and mental health and well-being, and the influence of cultural ecosystem services; traditional medicine; and modern medicine and pharmaceuticals. Closely linked to COP 12 deliberations on the interlinkages between biodiversity and human health, the event provided an interactive dialogue session between participants and several coordinating authors of the review, with a view to convey a way forward for a shared biodiversity and health agenda.
