Daily Web Coverage (Click on the Following Links to See our Daily Webpages)
Highlights for Friday, 10 October 2014
CBD COP 12 & NP COP/MOP 1On Friday, 10 October, Working Group I considered conference room papers (CRPs) on implementation of the Strategic Plan, and support for its implementation. Working Group II finalized a CRP on Article 8(j) (traditional knowledge). Contact groups addressed compliance under the Nagoya Protocol, synthetic biology, and resource mobilization and the financial mechanism. Friends of the Chair groups convened on the “indigenous peoples” terminology, ecologically and biologically significant marine areas (EBSAs) and the voluntary peer-review of national biodiversity strategies and action plans (NBSAPs). An afternoon plenary addressed organizational issues; adopted decisions on liability and redress, the Global Strategy for Plant Conservation, and invasive alien species; and addressed access and benefit-sharing and biodiversity mainstreaming.

SDGs – Biodiversity and Social-Ecological Resilience – Dialogue
Tine Rossing, UNDP
Ellika Hermansson Török, Stockholm Resilience Centre
Joji Carino, Forest People Programme
Organized by SwedBio at Stockholm Resilience Centre and UNDP, this side event addressed evidence and recommendations regarding the role of biodiversity in the post-2015 development agenda and the implementation of the SDGs. A sharper focus on integrating biodiversity in these processes is essential, given that human needs, social and economic interlinkages in today's globalized world, and the impacts of climate change are increasing. Maintaining the world’s capacity to buffer these changes allows for human adaptation, as well as sustainable and transformative responses.
